Seasonal Balances and Distributions of Growth, Nutrients, and Carbohydrates in Mature Concord Grapevines © 2003

A cooperative project with: Alan Lakso, Terry Bates, Martin Goffinet, and Lailiang Cheng

Treatments: Destructive harvesting of mature Concord grapevines 10 different times in one year (starting in November 2002 and ending in November 2003)
Bobcat trenches and an air spade are used to excavate mature Concord root systems from the soil at the Cornell Vineyard Lab in Fredonia, NY.
The air spade uses a pressurized air stream to remove soil from the grapevine roots.
Rick Piccioni holds up an excavated vine showing the spreading root system of Concord vines.
