We are now 26 days after bloom at the Fredonia Vineyard Lab. According to the average berry growth curve we should be between 35% and 40% of final berry weight. However, current berry weight information at the lab indicates that we are closer to 45% of final berry weight. I am predicting that we will be at 50% of final berry weight on Wednesday (28 days after bloom) instead of on Friday (30 days after bloom). As we indicated at the thinning meetings last week, we are a bit ahead of normal given the weather conditions post-bloom. Therefore, if you are following the chart handed out at the meetings, assume that you are approximately 2 days (or 6% of final berry weight) ahead of normal when doing crop estimation and thinning.
