Grape growers must contend with a variety of insect, disease, weed, viral and vertebrate pests. Since 1989 the major focus of the grape pest management effort in New York State has been an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. The successful implementation of IPM depends on a number of factors including:  proper pest identification for all stages of the life cycle, identification of symptoms or damage, correct timing for management of the pest, the knowledge of the management strategies that are available and a basic understanding of the growth and development of the grape vine itself.

The NYS Grape IPM web site has been constructed to provide grape growers in the Lake Erie region of New York and Pennsylvania and the Finger Lakes Region of New York the information needed to implement IPM strategies in their vineyards. While much of the information is useful to other geographical areas, please check with your local extension office on specific pest management strategies.
