Canopy Management for Hybrids
Tuesday, May 5, 2009

2:00 - 4:00pm - Freedom Run Winery, 5138 Lower Mountain Rd., Lockport, NY 14094
This meeting will provide growers with an update on 2008 results from Dr. Justine Vanden Heuvel's trials on canopy management and crop adjustment for hybrid varieties, including tasting of experimental wines made from different canopy treatments, impact on production costs and returns, and labor/time involved in shoot thinning, leaf removal, and cluster thinning.  Presenters will include Justine Vanden Heuvel, Tim Martinson and Trent Preszler (Vanden Heuvel grad student).  They are also looking to enlist interested growers as cooperators in side-by-side demonstration blocks during 2009 **THIS WORKSHOP IS FREE, BUT IN ORDER TO KEEP IT ON THE AGENDA (NOT TO CANCEL), PLEASE SIGN UP WITH JODI CREASAP GEE AT 716.672.2191 OR

Shoot Thinning Demonstration
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 - 12:30 pm

North East Vineyard Lab
After the Coffee Pot meeting at Fred Luke's, please join us at the North East Vineyard Lab for a shoot thinning demonstration in hybrids. Got vigorous vines? This technique can be a useful tool in your canopy management toolbox to manage crop size and canopy density. The work done by Justine Vanden Huevel at Cornell University in Geneva has shown that shoot thinning can help improve wine quality. Join us after the Coffee Pot, and we'll teach you how!
