2015 Reporting Session for Current Projects and Future Proposals

A project reporting session is scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Cornell Lake Erie Research and Extension Laboratory located at 6592 West Main Rd. Portland, NY. This location will serve as the primary location, but some of the presenters will be presenting from Geneva via polycom. The meeting will begin at 9:00am and run until approximately Noon. Updates on projects funded by the Lake Erie Regional Grape Program Research and Extension Program, Inc. (the group charged with dispersing the 75 cents per ton voluntary assessment for Concords produced in the Lake Erie Region), New York Wine and Grape Foundation, and New York Wine Grape Growers Association, will be presented, as well as, short presentations on proposed new projects. The meeting format is designed to encourage discussion between those who are conducting or proposing projects, the funders, and the grower community by limiting presentations to 5 minutes and eliminating the use of visual aids. This reporting session is open to the public. Please RSVP by Monday, February 23,2015.

CORE Training & Pesticide Applicator's License Exam

The morning session will consist of a "CORE" training class that will run from 9:00am-Noon. This session is designed to be a review for the exam that follows in the afternoon. This session is not required to take the exam, but does qualify particpants for 3.0 DEC credits.

The exam held in the afternoon is conducted by the NYSDEC. You MUST register through them. All information pertaining to this exam is included on the PDF form titled Instructions for applying for the exam.Instructions for ordering manuals from The Cornell Store are also included.  These forms are found by clicking "view details".
Pre-registration is required for both events.

Crop insurance has become a significant risk management tool for area growers, particularly specialty crop growers like grapes. Currently over 70% of grape growers rely on crop insurance as a risk management tool in Chautauqua County.

10:10- 10:25 Drone Sensors - Dr. Rob Chancia, Rochester Institute of Technology - Rob is working together to address vineyard nutrition through better monitoring techniques and guidelines for grape production across the nation and all grape markets. He will discuss his research as a part of this collaborative project conducted at the Cornell Lake Erie Research and Extension Laboratory.

Welcome Andrew Holden to the LERGP team!

In case you have not heard yet, we have filled the vacant position of Business Management Educator. We are pleased to welcome Andrew Holden to our team. Here is a brief introduction with a little background. Please stop in to say hello and introduce yourself. Bring questions- he is ready to get to know you and your farm operation!

The Lake Erie Regional Grape Program welcomed Andrew Holden, LERGP's Business Management Specialist, to our team on March 1, 2024, filling the vacancy since May 2023. Andrew pursued his education at Ohio State University, earning a B.S. in Agribusiness and Applied Economics and later obtaining an M.S. in Agricultural and Extension Education. In his previous role he served as the Ashtabula County Agricultural Extension Educator with Ohio State University Extension for the past 5 years. Andrew is eager to bring his passion for agriculture, grapes, and wine along with his economic knowledge to this new position and to the growers in the Lake Erie Grape Region. He is looking forward to engaging with growers to help him understand their needs to ensure that his role equips them with the tools needed for success. His office is located at the Cornell AgriTech campus in Portland, NY (CLEREL).
