The Core Pesticide Training Program Series is for the person who needs to acquire the knowledge to be able to take the Pesticide Core exam for a license to apply pesticides. Also this is for certified applicators, private or commercial, seeking re certification credits.

A project reporting session is scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Cornell Lake Erie Research and Extension Laboratory located at 6592 West Main Rd. Portland, NY. This location will serve as the primary location, but some of the presenters will be presenting from Geneva via polycom. The meeting will begin at 9:00am and run until approximately Noon. Updates on projects funded by the Lake Erie Regional Grape Program Research and Extension Program, Inc. (the group charged with dispersing the 75 cents per ton voluntary assessment for Concords produced in the Lake Erie Region), New York Wine and Grape Foundation, and New York Wine Grape Growers Association, will be presented, as well as, short presentations on proposed new projects. The meeting format is designed to encourage discussion between those who are conducting or proposing projects, the funders, and the grower community by limiting presentations to 5 minutes and eliminating the use of visual aids. Demaris Brown, labeling specialist with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau will speak on the wine label approval process. Demaris has been with the Advertising, Labeling and Formulation Division (ALFD) of the TTB for nearly five years.

The Finger Lakes Grape Program will b holding a mechanical pruning demonstration with Hazlitt Vineyards Thursday, April 2nd.

The morning session will consist of a "CORE" training class that will run from 9:00am-Noon. This session is designed to be a review for the exam that follows in the afternoon. This session is not required to take the exam, but does qualify particpants for 3.0 DEC credits.

Tim Weigle, NYS IPM Program will lead participants in an overview of the Worker Protection Standard by showing the Michigan State University video, Pesticide Handlers and the Worker Protection Standard. The video itself is 50 minutes, and will be accompanied by a question and answer session.

Dr. Markus Keller, professor of viticulture at Washington State University in Prosser, WA, will be discussing some of his work on understanding grapevine cold hardiness and preventing winter injury. Preregistration is requested.
